My name is Jason Savage - president of Freedom
Memorials. We are the project developers for the National Afghanistan
and Iraq
Freedom Reigns Memorial. In his
letter, Senator Bob Dole congratulated us for undertaking
this commemoration. He cautioned us that his work with the World
War II Memorial was, “...a long and
arduous task.” After spending more than six years to date
on this memorial effort, I know precisely what he meant.
It has taken us this long to complete the design,
develop the special, etched black stainless steel tributes (left),
negotiate an
outstanding location, and secure the participation of one of
the finest memorial contractors - Cold Spring Granite, builders
of the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial in Washington, DC, among others.
Now we would like to ask the people for their support.
We are requesting your help with this fund-raising campaign.
There are many fine causes that need support. Your organization
may assist one or more non-profits at present. Many require on-going
funding because their missions, like Easter Seals, is perpetual.
We need to raise the capital to build this memorial. Once that
is completed, the fund-raising will end.
I have a very important paper that includes why
we undertook this project, notable people who were consulted,
and why this
memorial cannot be built at this time in Washington, DC. The
paper is entitled Honoring
Our Fallen In Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Freedom Reigns Memorial
must be built now while the parent’s
of the fallen can witness this commemoration to their loved ones.
The National WWII Memorial was dedicated on May 29, 2004 - fifty
nine years after the war ended. Few parents got to see that dedication. On February 22, 2010, The Hurt Locker, a movie about a bomb-disposal
squad in Iraq took six prizes, including best picture, at the
British Academy Film Awards, besting the blockbuster Avatar.
This is yet another confirmation that the people do care and
are concerned about the dangers and conditions the troops face
in these wars. These are unusual and difficult times. The war
on terrorism is unprecedented. Dedicated military men and women
are sacrificing their lives so we can pursue our daily routines
without the fear and devastation endured by citizens in other
countries. We need to honor them today!
The WWII Memorial site states, “Support came from hundreds
of thousands of individual Americans, hundreds of corporations
and foundations, veterans groups, dozens of civic, fraternal
and professional organizations, states and one territory, and
students in 1,200 schools across the country.” We believe
this memorial can generate that same level of support.
We need your help today to spearhead this
effort. The ‘would
you like to donate one dollar’ drives where people sign
a contribution card, which in some locations are taped to a wall,
are successfully raising funds for many causes. Can you help
us with a similar drive for the Freedom Reigns Memorial?
I have proposed poster/flyer/donation card design samples for
your review.

Thank you very much for your participation. The families of
the fallen, 30 million Americans with military affinity and patriotic
people across this country will applaud your assistance. With
your generous help, the Freedom Reigns Memorial will soon be
on its way to dedication.
Please contact me to discuss the drive and a timetable.
Sincerely yours,

Jason Savage
President
